Why support Orange Sky?
Homelessness and hardship affect more people than many realise. In 2018, Statistics New Zealand reported that 1 in 120 people were experiencing homelessness on any given night. Over the past two decades, homelessness has grown faster than the population, with New Zealand and Australia having the highest rates in the OECD (OECD Affordable Housing Database, 2020).
But homelessness isn’t just about sleeping rough—those visibly on the streets make up only 8% of the homeless community. Many others are in unstable housing, living in cars, couch surfing, or staying in overcrowded conditions. Meanwhile, thousands more face financial hardship, struggling to afford rent, food, and basic essentials.
Most of us may never experience a night on the street, but nearly everyone understands what it’s like to struggle financially. An unexpected bill, a medical emergency, or a relationship breakdown—these moments can push someone into crisis faster than we might think.
That’s where Orange Sky comes in. As a registered New Zealand charity, we provide free laundry, hot showers, and a safe space for k?rero and connection to people experiencing homelessness and hardship. More than just services, we offer dignity, mana, and a sense of belonging—ensuring no one in our community is left behind.
