Why Orange Sky?

I am / We are supporting Orange Sky and the friends who rely on laundry and shower services by raising funds and awareness for homelessness by starting conversations with people in the community. In New Zealand, 1 in 110 people are experiencing homelessness. Of those experiencing homelessness, only a small percentage are ‘sleeping rough’, while many others stay in shelters, boarding houses, temporary accommodation, or severely crowded homes.

Does Orange Sky just do laundry?

Orange Sky provides laundry and shower services! However, we realised pretty quickly that in the hour it takes to do a load of laundry, there’s not much to do but sit down and chat. That’s why there are six orange chairs at every single Orange Sky shift - it’s an opportunity for friends and volunteers to connect through genuine and non-judgemental conversation.

People who experience homelessness are often disconnected from the community with less opportunity for human connection - something we all need. This is the true power of our conversations on our orange chairs.

Plus, Orange Sky isn’t just in the cities, with services in remote communities aimed at improving hygiene standards and providing the opportunity for a yarn. Orange Sky also provides community recovery assistance after natural disasters such as flooding or bushfires, or during a pandemic.

Where does the money go?

Orange Sky has 3 vans and hundreds of volunteers and hundreds of friends who rely on us to be at the same place at the same time every week. Your money helps our vans to stay on the road and makes sure our volunteers have everything they need to do the things they do best.

How can I help?

You can make a donation to support! Just $26 provides a friend with access to clean clothes, safe showers and genuine connection, so every little bit counts.

Fundraising

Can you promote my event on Orange Sky social media platforms?

Our social media is used primarily to share the stories of friends and volunteers on shift and not as a promotional tool. We would still LOVE to see photos from your fundraiser or event - you can either email them through to us or post on your socials with our approved hashtags (you never know, we might even re-share them!).

Can Orange Sky supply donation tins or collect money?

Unfortunately we’re not able to accept or collect cash donations, but there’s lots of easy ways for you to get your fundraising money to us and we can even help you create an online fundraising page specifically for your event, just ask us.

Can Orange Sky help organise my event?

We know that a heck of a lot of work goes into organising an event - and we’re so grateful for people giving their time to raise funds for Orange Sky. We have a pretty small team so we’re not able to take on a coordination role in your event (like assisting with ticket sales, participating in raffles or giving out prizes).

Can an Orange Sky representative attend my event to accept funds or a cheque?

If you’d like to hand over a cheque at your event or once your event is completed, get in touch and a staff member or volunteer may be available to attend.

How do I create my fundraising page?

It’s seriously easy. When you sign up, you’ll be taken through all the steps to set up your personal or team page and get you ready to smash that fundraising goal!

Instruction to set up Km Tracking

When you sign up for Move your way, we'll ask if you want to track your kilometre. You can always come back to this and link your fitness account by logging into your profile again and following the instructions.
