Payroll giving is a great way to support people experiencing homelessness. It's an easy way to donate a portion of your pre-tax salary on a regular basis. Many employers choose to match their employee's donations and double the impact for people doing it tough. By supporting Orange Sky through payroll giving, you'll be helping to positively connect the 1 in 120 Kiwis experiencing homelessness. Every contribution makes a big impact.
Want to make a difference while you work? Payroll giving is a simple and smart way to support Orange Sky and people experiencing homelessness. Here's just a couple of reasons why payroll giving is a great way to give!
Your donation could be doubled! Many employers offer some form of matched giving program with payroll giving, meaning every dollar you donate could potentially be doubled, or in some cases even tripled!
By using payroll giving to donate directly from your pay you'll receive instant tax benefits that reduce your payable PAYE. If your donation is more than $5, you receive a third of the donation amount as an immediate tax rebate.
You’ll make a difference… There are over 41,600 people in Aotearoa experiencing homelessness. For less than $3.50 per day, you could ensure access to basic necessities like clean clothes, a warm shower and a compassionate conversation for a friend doing it tough.
How do I get started?

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make a one off donation through workplace giving?
Every workplace is different, but if your employer is happy to facilitate it, you can make occasional or one-off payroll deductions that are not part of a regular payroll donation.
How much will I save?
As with other donations, you are entitled to a tax credit of 33.33c for each dollar donated, however, instead of having to wait until the end of the tax year to receive the credit, 33.33c for every dollar donated is credited to your pay at the time of donation.
The payroll giving platform, Good2Give, has a handy donation tax calculator that estimates how much a donation from each pay (or a generous one-time donation) will save you in tax and actually cost.
You can also find out more information on the Inland Revenue website here.
Do I need a receipt for payroll donations?
When you donate directly through your salary, you receive the tax benefit immediately and the donation is recorded on your payslip, meaning there's no need to keep receipts for donations made through payroll giving.
At the end of the financial year, your employer will include the total amount you donated in your payment summary, or provide you with a letter or email. Your income statement, payment summary, or other written statement from your employer showing the donated amount, is sufficient evidence. You do not need to have a receipt.
For Employers - How do I process and administer payroll giving?
You can process payroll giving either through a direct bank transfer or through using a third party platform. In either case, you will need to keep records of the amount donated on behalf of each employee and advise them in writing of the total amount donated at the end of the financial year.
You can implement your Payroll Giving program internally by scheduling a regular bank transfer to Orange Sky that coincides with your pay cycle.
Paying via bank transfer means we receive 100% of the donations, and you can utilise your current HR or payroll platform.

THIRD PARTY PLATFORM
Using an existing built-for-purpose platform provides an accessible and easy set up process for your payroll team and staff. Staff are able to create accounts, choose a charity and donation amount, and manage their contributions themselves. There are several platforms you can use, including Good Company and Good2Give. However, the use of a third-party platform does incur a fee, unlike bank transfers.
