While a lot of us spend time with friends and loved ones during the holidays, for many people experiencing homelessness and hardship, this may not be the case. Together, we create an environment that supports people doing it tough to feel a little less lonely, a little more connected and ultimately part of a community.

“I hadn’t had a shower in four days. As soon as I saw the van I dived in. Having clean clothes and a shower - man, it changes everything.”

Tēwa still remembers the first time he saw the Orange Sky van. It was during one of the toughest times in his life - when simple things like clean clothes and a hot shower felt out of reach. That first wash and kōrero made a huge difference, and it’s why he still comes back today - not just for the laundry, but for the connection.

"Those volunteers, I really care about them. It's voluntary, it's not easy to just go and do work like this, you know. That in itself is something else. I really take my hat off to these people doing these shifts for Orange Sky." Tēwa, Orange Sky Friend.

Everyone needs connection.

A big part of what brings Tēwa back is the people. “Now I'm in social housing, I still come down now and again really to support them, not so much to do my washing anymore or to have a shower, but just to come down here and be with them."
