As the holiday season approaches, you can help whanau like Albert find warmth and practical support.
For many in your community, this year’s celebrations may be overshadowed by concerns about how to afford the basics. Rising rent, food prices, and bills are pushing more people toward the brink of hardship and homelessness.
Albert represents many whanau facing tough realities. Every Wednesday, Albert looks forward to his local Orange Sky shift—it's the highlight of his week. Without this service, the cost of using a laundromat would force him to make difficult choices.
Thank you for caring about whanau like Albert. Together, we can make sure no one is left behind this holiday season.
Nga mihi nui, thank you very much.
Why support Orange Sky?
In the last 20 years, the rate of homelessness has outstripped population growth, with New Zealand and Australia showing the highest rates of homelessness in OECD countries (OECD Affordable Housing Database 2020). Homelessness is a complex issue that extends beyond people sleeping rough, who make up only 8% of the homeless community.
Most of us don’t know what it’s like to spend a night on the street, but nearly all of us could relate to being cash-strapped at one point or another. An unexpected bill, a medical emergency or maybe the breakdown of a relationship – it doesn’t take long to be in a situation where money is tight.
Orange Sky is a registered charity that provides free laundry, hot showers and non-judgmental korero and connection to those experiencing homelessness and hardship. We believe in raising dignity and mana across Aotearoa - ensuring no one in your community is left behind.
